National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) provides
approval and certification on scales that are intended
for use in commercial applications where products are
sold by weight.
NTEP applies a “Legal for Trade” certification
on scales which comply with Handbook 44.
NTEP “legal for trade”. Scales are commonly required
by anyone buying and selling gold and silver.
It is important to check with your state to
determine if a legal for trade scale is required.
The department of weights and measures can impose some
very high fines for anyone found not in compliance.
