New watch battery: Make sure you have the correct size and type of battery for your watch model. This information is often printed on the old battery itself or can be found from the manufacturer.
Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Prepare your workspace: Choose a clean, well-lit area where you can comfortably work. Also, have a tray for small components.
2. Identify the type of case back: Watches typically have either a screw-down case back (which requires a tool to unscrew) or a snap-down case back (which can be pried open with a case opener).
3. Open the case back: Use the appropriate tool to gently open the case back. For a screw-down case back, carefully unscrew it in a counterclockwise direction. For a snap-down case back, insert the case opener tool into the gap between the case back and the watch case, then gently pry it open. Use a soft cloth to prevent scratching the case.
4. Clean the area: Remove any dirt and debris that may make closing the watch difficult.
5. Locate the battery: Once the case back is open, locate the battery inside the watch. It’s usually held in place by a small clip, spring or screws.
6. Remove the old battery: Use plastic tweezers to carefully lift out the old battery. Take note of its orientation (which side is facing up) as you will need to place the new battery in the same way.
7. Insert the new battery: Take the new battery and place it into the compartment with the same orientation as the old battery. Ensure it sits securely in place.
8. Close the case back: If you removed a screw-down case back, carefully screw it back into place in a clockwise direction. If it’s a snap-down case back, align it properly and press down firmly until you hear or feel it snap shut. Some time this may be difficult and require a special tool to close the back.
9. Check the watch: After closing the case back, check that the watch is running properly. If it’s a digital watch, reset the time and any other settings that may have been affected by removing the battery.
10. Dispose of the old battery: Make sure to properly dispose of the old battery in accordance with local regulations. Batteries often contain hazardous materials and should not be thrown away with regular trash.
